Call your mates, pool your cash, because the new Penfolds wines are here.
Your birthday, New Year’s Eve, the Penfolds Collection release – these are what we consider major moments on the annual calendar. Plenty of wineries release their new wines in one annual drop, but few spark as much buzz as the Penfolds Collection. It’s a Big Deal. As in, Christmas for wine people – except in August (and with fewer paper crowns). That most famous red, Penfolds Grange, always headlines the collection, but there are 18 other wines in this range that also deserve some of the fanfare. They don’t all come with Grange’s price tag, either. And these wines are now officially available in stores.
If you’re feeling spendy, there are several exceptional wines in the 2025 Collection that might just inspire you to push the boat out. If, however, your budget sits somewhere else on the scale, there are 10 new-vintage wines that come in under $100 at Dan’s, and four that are less than $50. Not bad for what’s arguably Australia’s most iconic winery. If you’re not familiar with Penfolds, this South Australian icon produces our most globally renowned wines, are a whopping 181 years old and have been making that pinnacle wine Grange since 1951. Every single year.
More recently, the Penfolds team has been innovating with wines made from key international regions, including multi-nation blends never seen before, and others made wholly with fruit from France, the US and even China. This year, the spanking new all-French FWT 543 joins the mix, with its multi-region blend of cabernet and syrah. Always full of benchmark reds and whites, the 2025 collection is again chocked with highlights. These include the Bin 311 Chardonnay – made with fruit from a trifecta of top cool-climate regions – the ripe and robust Bin 21 Grenache, the always understated St Henri Shiraz and the Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon, which blends the best fruit from five regions across South Australia.
If you’re wondering which wines to focus on within the range, we have five other must-try releases that demand your attention. We think they make a great excuse to fire up your wine-loving mates, maybe even pool your resources and plan an elaborate dinner to go with some of these special wines.
