Five drinks to meet a Virgo’s sky-high standards.

Remember that one scene in The Devil Wears Prada, where everyone is panicking, applying lippy and putting on high heels because Miranda Priestly is arriving early? Yeah, that’s what Virgo season is like. Not in a bad way, they just have super high standards for both themselves and all the people around them. They’re fashionable (God forbid you wear jeans on a night out), obsessed with beautifying themselves and can be quite judgemental (we say this with only the deepest love, of course). It’s tricky buying anything for a Virgo so we’ve put together a list of the best drinks to serve a Virgo, sure to meet your friend’s expectations.
1. Gin MartiniWhen you think of Virgo energy, what comes to mind? Is it a swan for some reason? Because same. Virgos are graceful, poised, ballerina types. They’d never be caught dead doing a shoey at a dive bar. No, their thing is elegance, sophistication and being the classiest person in the room. Which is why nine times out of ten a Virgo will opt for a Gin Martini. Not only because it’s always the classiest drink on the menu (uh hello, it’s James Bond’s drink), but it’s also always served in beautiful long-stemmed glassware that can (and does) double as a really stylish Virgo accessory. Bonus points for buying them the glasses as well.

2. Scotch whisky

We mentioned a Virgo’s particularly high standards (re: being the Anna Wintour of the zodiac), and they keep that up thanks to their meticulous attention to detail and robot-like precision – i.e. they’re massive control freaks. Sorry, Virgos, but it’s true. Everything has to be just so or they’ll micromanage the crap out of it. So, what drink do you give such a detail-oriented perfectionist? Scotch whisky of course. Quality control, high standards and attention to detail are Scotch whisky’s MO. We’d opt for the Ailsa Bay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which has been created in one of the most high-tech distilleries in the world by a team of talented chemists. If that doesn’t scream Virgo, we don’t know what does.

3. Sauvignon blanc

Despite being weirdo perfectionists, your Virgo pals do have a surprising sense of humour. It’s a by-product of having a bright, shrewd mind. They may not be the centre of attention (like a Leo), but when they’re on a roll you can definitely expect some witty, very dry banter. And what pairs perfectly with dry humour? Dry sauvignon blanc. We suggest a delish bottle of Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc. These Adelaide Hills darlings are experts on the matter and not only is it super yum, but your Virgo mate will appreciate the comparison.

4. Sustainable beer

We’ve gone hard at the Virgos today, but one of their most admirable traits is how much they love helping people. After a lift to the airport? Need a hand lifting your new couch upstairs? That’s a Virgo’s jam – they’re what you’d call a bunch of do-gooders. But beware, they do require a solid thank you in return. We’re talking about a gift of appreciation, a little something to show your gratitude. Our suggestion? Gift them a slab of Four Pines Pale Ale. Not only is it an award-winning beer (remember those high standards) but they’re also totally B Corp certified and support several local charities. That’s an inception of good deeds, which a Virgo will absolutely love.

5. Pre-mixed cocktails

In every friend group, there’s always that one designated “organised friend”. The one that books the restaurant, plans all group travel itinerary, or tees-up drinks. We know, snoozeville...UNLESS you’re a Virgo. They’ll create agendas, spreadsheets even, if it means everything is organised. Which is why a premixed cocktail is a Virgo’s best friend – especially one as delicious as The Mixology Company’s Amaretto Sour. Takes the fuss out of cocktails and perfect for slotting into the carefully packed picnic bag.
