Because great wine doesn’t have to cost the earth.

We know the wine aisles can be overwhelming. There’s a lot to choose from – and that’s once you’ve actually landed on what you want to drink. Wine can also be very serious and often expensive. But what if we told you that there was a winery making quality drops for less than a tenner (we’re serious) and it’s produced with the earth in mind? Sign you up? We thought so. That, in a nutshell, is Rewild.

If this is your intro to the label, here’s the 411. Rewild takes an earth-first approach, committed to giving back more than they take. Rewild is the largest certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (a national program empowering growers and makers to enhance their commitment to sustainability), and the team takes a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking. They also use solar energy – the goal is 100% renewable energy – to produce their vegan wines. During the winemaking process, as the grapes are pressed, everything – seeds, skins and stalks – becomes compost (producing more than 8000 tonnes annually) and it’s then returned to the soil.

In addition, the Rewild team at Duxton Vineyards in the Mildura and Sunraysia region of NSW has planted shrubs and trees, protected the bees, and made a home for the endangered Regent Parrot. Then there’s their bottles – lightweight glass, FSC-certified recycled cardboard and labels made from sugarcane pulp. So yeah, Rewild does a hell of a lot of good. So, if you’re keen to drink more mindfully, without sacrificing quality or flavour, consider Rewild your new go-to wines.

The next big thing: Rewild Sustainable Pinot Grigio

We don’t have a crystal ball, but trust us when we say that pinot grigio is about to be the next ‘It’ wine. Here’s a tidbit for trivia night: ‘grigio’ translates to ‘grey’ in Italian, and it’s named for the grape’s grey-red colour (the more you know). New to pinot grigio? We reckon you’ll be right on board if you’re already a savvy b fan, dabble in albariño or usually order a dry rizza. Pinot grigio is famous for being on the drier side, with high acidity and crisp flavours of citrus (usually lemon and lime), apple, pear and honeysuckle. And Rewild just so happens to make a great one – meet the Sustainably Made Pinot Grigio.

This Rewild Pinot Grigio is a hot pick for Raphael Vigneau, our trusted wine merchant from Melbourne’s Doncaster East Dan Murphy’s store. “It's got lots of great flavours and really over-delivers in quality for a wine of this price,” he says. “It starts fruity, finishes clean and fresh, and it is well balanced.” Full of lemon and apple flavours, and surprisingly balanced for a wine of this price, Raphael says this is an Australian pinot grigio you don’t need to overthink. Say no more. As for how to serve it? Raphael recommends tossing some prawns in butter and lemon, and pouring a glass of this grigio alongside it. Love a curry with some heat? “The fruitiness would especially help with anything spicy,” Raphael says. “And if you go to yum cha and it's BYO, this would really work.

Eco-friendly wine on the go: Rewild Bagnums (1.5L)

Babe, wake up, bagnums are so back. Remember when walking around with a bag of wine was a faux pas? Well, now it’s the hottest accessory. Bagnums just make sense, not least because you can take these 1.5L wine pouches anywhere, like your mate’s place, a picnic, camping, BYO restaurants, parties – the list is endless. They’re eco-friendly because there’s less waste, which is very on-brand for Rewild, and they’re economical – you get a few days out of a bottle once it’s open, but you get up to four weeks out of a bagnum. The best news? Rewild has three wines available in this 1.5L format, including sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. Chic.

If you’re more of a red-wine fan, the Rewild Shiraz is full of sweet, dark berry flavours, chocolate shavings, vanilla and fine tannins (for that mouth-puckering texture). Fire up the group chat because it’s Friday night and we’re headed to the park with a stack of pizzas (pepperoni, please) and a bag of shiraz. BYO tumbler. Leftover wine? Perfect. Tuesday night is steak night. The vibrant, fruit-forward shiraz will balance the char of your steak and its tannins will cut right through any fattiness of the meat. The only question left is peppercorn, Béarnaise, café de Paris or red wine jus?

Affordable bubbles: Rewild Prosecco

We all need a go-to bubbles, right? And it’s pretty hard to go past Rewild’s Prosecco. Like all their bottled wines, it’ll only set you back 10 bucks. So, how does the team make a genuinely great prosecco for an absolute steal? Tony Allen, wine and grape commercial manager of Duxton Vineyards, says it all comes down to understanding the fruit and style. “We know exactly how to capture its bright character while keeping it approachable and affordable… It’s proof that value doesn’t mean compromise.”

The grapes come from the Murray Darling, where the climate is warm, which means the flavour develops while retaining freshness. Parcels of fruit are hand-selected to ensure that freshness and quality. “The prosecco is all about easy enjoyment and bright, lively flavour. You’ll find aromas of pear, crisp Granny Smith apple and a hint of lemon citrus on the nose, followed by crunchy apple and pear notes on the palate. It’s light and refreshing with a fine, energetic mousse [the foam that forms on top of sparkling wine in the glass], beautifully balanced acidity and great length.” Prosecco is right at home with food, too. Tony says it’s hard to beat on a warm day with a fruit platter, but it’s equally as delicious with fresh oysters and prawns. “That’s where that crisp acidity and fine bubbles really shine,” he says.

The crowd favourite: Rewild Sustainably Made Rosé

Find us someone who doesn’t love rosé – we’ll wait. If you’re not familiar with the pink drink, rosé is known for its vibrant red fruits and subtle spice. It's layered with savoury notes of green capsicum, sometimes even olive, and has delicate florals of rose petals and violets. The rosé colour palette can span pale pink through to berry red – it all depends on how long the grape skins are in contact with the juice (the longer the contact, the deeper the final colour will be).

The Rewild Rosé is pale salmon, with bright berry flavours, a touch of raspberry cordial and a bite of acidity. Rosé has never met a dish it didn’t like (especially those with spice), but because we’re a little extra, we’re serving the Rewild Rosé alongside a berry-loaded cheesecake. As a drier expression of rosé, the Rewild works with the cake rather than competing with its sweetness. Serve up this dream duo whenever you’re looking to impress your guests (and just a gentle reminder that Mother’s Day is coming up).
