Consider this your ultimate checklist of the year’s best.

2021 may have felt like one big doom scroll, but there were good news stories in amongst all the crap. Britney finally got free, Bennifer rekindled their love, and we were all introduced to cursed cosplays. The delicious cherry on top? 2021 welcomed some pretty stellar wines. From light, bright whites to robust reds and everything in between.

If you’re looking for your new go-to drop, consider this your ultimate checklist of the year's best. With summer just around the corner, you'll find refreshing bottles to celebrate with, alongside some more complex, timeless wines to take you into the new year and beyond.

Lanson Blanc de Blancs Champagne NV

This fresh and fruity number is much more than the sum of its parts. Made from some of Champagne's greatest Grands and Premiers Cru reserves, it's a stunning expression of the region. We couldn't think of a better way to ring in the new year.

Freixenet Alcohol Free Sparkling White

There's a lot of things we'd rather forget about 2021. But what we will remember is that it was the year that winemakers got serious about low and non-alc. This sparkling from Spanish winemaker Freixenet is the real deal in every sense, alcohol notwithstanding.

Annie's Lane Shiraz 2015

Hop in your time machine and travel back to 2015, before Covid was a thing and our biggest concern was Tony Abbott munching on raw onions. The folks at Annie’s Lane were busy bottling this gem, made from some of the oldest shiraz vines in South Australia's Clare Valley. Smooth, silky, and ultra-drinkable, now’s the perfect time to crack it open.

Giesen 0% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Finally, a Marlborough savvy b the whole family can get behind. Bringing all those distinctive passionfruit and gooseberry flavours with none of the alcohol, this wine is becoming a hard and fast fave at our dinner table.

Noble Fellows Viscount Kea Marlborough Chardonnay

Emerging from the shadows of its sauvignon blanc counterpart, Marlborough chardonnay is on the rise, and for good reason. This, from Noble Fellows, is an absolute star, with notes of white peach and almond and a gentle, oaky finish.

Taylors Estate Shiraz 2015

This universally revered Clare Valley Shiraz continues to impress with its latest release. Taylors' 2015 vintage is truly one for the ages, and what a pleasure to be enjoying it in 2021. Grab a case, stuff it in the cellar, and watch it evolve over the next 5-10 years. Superb.

A by Arras Premium Cuvee Rose

There's something truly luxurious about sparkling rosé. Crisp, dry, and exhibiting delicate red berry and cream characteristics, this wine from Tasmania's A by Arras is just the thing for a summer toast. Here’s to annual leave!
