The full-time content creator and jewellery designer knows a thing or two about picking a date spot with 10/10 vibes, food and drinks.
When she’s not gallivanting around Europe sourcing inspiration for her fine jewellery company, designer clothes and snacking on escargot, you can find Katherine Denton studying to be a gemologist and sharing a typical day in her Melbourne life with her 87K TikTok followers. That’s a lot of people who want to know what you’re doing, wearing and eating! And it’s no wonder, because Katherine, who’s also a full-time content creator, has an enviable wardrobe, timeless style and her finger on the pulse of everything that’s cool. This just so happens to include the best date-night spots in Melbourne – and lucky for us, she’s shared a few of her recommendations.
For Katherine, a great date starts with a super dirty Belvedere Martini with three olives, or a glass of Chablis in a venue with good vibes – and if it’s a spur-of-the-moment date, even better! “My idea of romance is spontaneity. I appreciate and love when things happen unexpectedly, without prior planning or any expectation – a super last-minute dinner on a random Tuesday evening at a favourite restaurant is absolute heaven to me,” she says. As for Katherine’s relationship status? “I’m in a relationship. A pretty serious one actually, I’m married!” she says. “It doesn’t really change anything. Louis and I have been going to the same restaurants since the day we met. We’re always up for anything and love trying new places.”
Although a first date is far behind her, Katherine says for anyone picking a venue for a first date, it’s all about the vibe. “It’s crucial. You want to go somewhere that’s busy, but not too busy! You want a little privacy in-between tables, and drinks and food are obviously super important. A place with sharing plates is a great idea because it makes it a little more casual and relaxed,” Katherine says. If you’re worried about committing to a meal, take Katherine’s advice and see how just a drink goes. “It’s a nice way to see if you actually like the person without the commitment of an entire dinner. And if all goes well, you can grab a bite to eat after or plan for dinner on the second date,” she says.
When it comes to those first dates, Katherine says nerves are to be expected, but don’t let them get the better of you. Her tip? A cheeky drink while you get ready. “Look, I’ve never been against a glass of wine or cocktail while getting ready – it can be so nerve-racking!” Katherine says. “I also recommend, if given the choice, picking a restaurant that you’ve been to before – that way you already know what you’re walking into and you’re in familiar territory.”
Okay, first date or not, here are some ideal spots, according to Katherine. Take note and reserve a table.
