Much better than the previous bottle tasted: fresh and vibrant with lots of fruit and verve (no pun intended). There are fresh, youthful bready, bakery aromas and the predominant flavour is fresh green apple. It's not very complex but neither is it overly sweet or disappointing in any way. Served cold, it is very refreshing and appetising. Exactly what I'd hope for.

Lemony richness on the nose, a stuck-match character that falls in with a lemon vanilla note. Toffee apple allure on the palate with chalky coolness and a savoury, nutty finish.

Meet the world's greatest Champagne houses
Veuve Clicquot is a fixture at Christmas tables, engagements, weddings and birthday toasts, but there’s a lot more to this legacy house than its iconic yellow label. It was Madame Clicquot herself – the "Grande Dame of Champagne" – who shattered 19th-century ceilings by taking over the reins and creating the first-ever vintage Champagne back in 1810. Head to Dan’s Daily to meet the big houses of Champagne, and discover why this 250-plus-year-old maison is still the one to beat.
