NSW Same-day Delivery ID Verification - Frequently Asked Questions
What is the new NSW same-day delivery legislation?
Legislation in NSW requires any customer placing a same-day delivery order for alcohol to verify they are 18 or over. Under these regulations, if asked to present a valid ID at the doorstep, the customer must agree to do so.
Why has this requirement been introduced?
This is an additional measure introduced by the NSW Government to help prevent minors from purchasing alcohol online.
PROCESS
How do I verify my ID online?
If you are a My Dan’s member, please click here to verify your ID with our accredited identity verification providers. You will need to provide either a physical ID (driver's licence, passport or NSW Photo Card) or a digital ID via your bank (currently CommBank is available with more providers coming soon). The identity verification provider will ask for your permission to share your full name and date of birth with Dan Murphy in order to complete your verification.
Using ConnectID to verify?
To use ConnectID to verify your age, your digital identification on your banking app (currently only Commbank) needs to have been completed in the last five years. If this hasn't been completed or was over five years ago you'll need to update this before ConnectID can be used at Dan Murphy to verify your ID.
Is the verification provider secure?
Dan Murphy uses two service providers accredited by the NSW Government to verify your ID. IDVerse for physical ID and ConnectID for digital identification. In order for service providers to be approved and accredited, they need to meet very strict requirements. To read more on those requirements, please see the Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF).
Will I need to do this every time I shop with Dan Murphy?
No, verifying your ID online is optional. If you are logged into your Dan Murphy account and choose to verify your ID, you will only be required to do this once. Don’t have an account? Why not create your Dan Murphy membership HERE now?
What details will you need from me to complete this verification?
You will need one of the following identification documents in order to complete your ID verification:
Physical ID:
NSW Digital Driver’s Licence via the Service NSW app
Australian / International Drivers Licences
Australian / International (visa no more than 2 years old) Passport
Australian/State-issued Photo ID Cards such as the NSW Photo Card.
Digital Verification
CommBank Mobile App (more providers coming)
IDs that are expired or cancelled will not be accepted.
Please ensure the name on your ID matches the one on your profile.
How will I know if my ID verification was successful?
After uploading your ID for online verification, the page will reload to show whether your verification was a ‘Success’, ‘Fail’ or if you will need to ‘Update And Continue’.
If you are an account holder, this verification will be added to your contact details page on your Dan Murphy account and you won’t need to repeat the process again.
Could I verify the ID for an authorised person on the account as well as the account holder?
No, only the person who requested the same-day delivery can digitally verify themselves with their valid ID.
What happens if my ID is declined?
If your verification attempt fails you will be notified by Dan Murphy. You will have the option to retry your online ID verification.

Do I still need to show my ID to the delivery driver if I verified my ID when ordering a same-day delivery?
Every time you receive a delivery of alcohol you will be required to verify your ID with the delivery person. By law, they are required to capture your Name, ID type and date of birth before handing the delivery over to you.
Do I have to show the delivery driver the same digitally verified ID?
No, delivery drivers approve multiple forms of acceptable ID to confirm all recipients are over 18 years of age. This includes Drivers Licence, Passport and NSW Photo Cards.
What happens if my ID expires or is cancelled after verification?
At present, nothing - if you have a membership with Dan Murphy, no changes will need to be made and you can continue to have same-day delivery as customers with an account only need to be verified once. Don’t have a membership? Join HERE so you will only have to verify once.
If we are required by law to update that information in due course, we will let you know.
What do I do if my NSW Digital Driver's Licence is not verifying?
Ensure the screenshot of your ID clearly includes your first name, middle name, last name, date of birth and licence number.
If your verification is still not working, please try another form of ID or chat with one of our agents. Alternatively, use a physical ID to verify you are 18 or over when the delivery arrives.

Yes. Anyone who requests same-day delivery of alcohol can digitally verify their ID prior to ordering. This includes if you are ordering for a business.
