Good wines for less than $10? You bet – complete with easy food matches for lazy nights in.

For most of us, the wine we grab for a night on the couch won’t be the same one we take to dinner with friends. We all love a bargain, especially when it comes to wine – but even more when nobody’s watching. So, when we settle in for a solid binge-watch with our favourite people, the accompanying wine simply needs to taste good and not distract from the drama on the telly. And that’s where the worthy wines under $10 come in.

Yep, it’s true – there are many wines that legitimately drink well while also giving change from a tenner. Just in case you don’t believe us, we’ve rounded up five of the best Aussie wines that come in at these prices for some total weeknight superstars. Then again, you might like them so much that you end up taking them to those dinners after all.

Queen Snapper Sauvignon Blanc

1. Queen Snapper Sauvignon Blanc

This blend of bright, fresh fruit from Western Australia and South Australia has created a crisp, refreshing, classic sauvignon blanc. It’s well-balanced with subtle citrus and vibrant tropical fruit flavours, along with a touch of herbal notes – everything you could want in an everyday sav. At around $7, it offers incredible value for money, and also makes an excellent match for the likes of pesto pasta or goat’s cheese and crackers in front of the TV.

2. Rewild Sustainably Made Merlot

Less than $10, easy to drink, and sustainable, too? This wine ticks all the boxes. If you’re newer to merlot, the Rewild is an excellent introduction, as it’s smooth, low in tannin and big on flavour – think plum, spice, chocolate and blackberry. The team at Duxtons Vineyard who make this wine are committed to a range of sustainable practices, including reducing their footprint and water usage, and focusing on renewable energies. Pour yourself a glass, order in pizza, press play, and your night’s sorted.

3. Jacob's Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir NV

Few producers are as consistent or reliable as Jacob’s Creek when it comes to turning out great wine at truly accessible prices. This sparkling is among the stars of the range and always punches well above its weight. It’s clean, refreshing and full of crisp apple, citrus, lemon and subtle biscuity notes; hand a glass of it to someone who knows their stuff and they won’t pick the price. Sparkling doesn’t have to be fancy, either – pair this with salty fries for a perfectly simple match.

4. Baily & Baily Silhouette Rosé

Next time the whole crew comes over, you can’t go past serving up the Baily & Baily Silhouette Rosé. As well as being deliciously bright, with ripe strawberry and rose petal aromas, this fresh Aussie rosé also comes in a one-litre bottle – all for around $7. In short, it’s a massive bargain. In addition to all that, this rosé pairs beautifully with so many dishes, from the posh (think prosciutto with melon, or salad with smoked salmon) to the basic (dip and chips works just as nicely).

5. Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Chardonnay

From one of Australia’s most iconic wine producers, this chardonnay is dry, medium-bodied and bursting with rich stone fruit, melon and tropical fruit flavours. It’s lively and also shows subtle oak, an impressive balance and a long finish. That’s no mean feat for around $7. When you can find it at this price, it’s worth throwing in a pack of Twisties to your purchase – and still only pay around $10 – as this chardy just so happens to pair brilliantly with the beloved cheese-flavoured snack. Pass the remote!
