It’s no longer just beers being served up in the convenience of a can.

Pssscht! Did you hear that? That’s the sound of a cold canned beverage being opened on a warm afternoon. For a long time that soothing sound could only be heard when cracking open a beer or soft drink — but not any more. Now there’s a whole range of unexpected drinks available in the convenience of a can.

Light and durable, drinks packaged in cans are the ultimate on-the-go accompaniment. They’re great for tossing in the esky for barbecues, picnicking in the park, or when you’re heading out on a camping adventure. And the added bonus is that they’re easily recyclable too — recycling an aluminium can saves 95% of the energy used to make a new can!

Now that the world of tinnies has grown beyond beers we’ve compiled a list of some of the canned seltzers, wines, cocktails, and conveniently premixed drinks that you need to know.

SeltzersSeltzers have taken the world by storm thanks to their light and refreshing taste. They’re alcoholic sparkling flavoured water drinks that come in a variety of bright berry and fruity flavours. One the most famous seltzer brands is White Claw, which finally landed in Australia last summer and became an instant hit. We recommend the Ruby Grapefruit flavour as a first step if you’re looking to see what all the fuss is about. Another great seltzer option from closer to home is Liberty Coast Raspberry Seltzer, Liberty makes super refreshing seltzers inspired by the natural landscapes of Australia. Or if you’re looking for a great tasting low sugar option then check out Pals Vodka Mango and Pineapple, which is low sugar, low carb, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and made from 100% natural ingredients from New Zealand.
WineIn recent years winemakers have started thinking outside of the box (and bottle) by looking to the humble can for packaging their premium vinos. And now some of Australia’s favourite wine labels now offer delicious drops in the uber convenient size of a can. Squealing Pig’s Spritzed Rosé is a great example of vibrant sparkling rosé that you can enjoy in a single serve without having to worry about a whole bottle going flat if you only want one glass. Tread Softly Prosecco is another fantastic bubbly option, with lots of fruit flavours and a natural sweetness that drinks really well straight out of the can. But it’s not just sparkling wines that are available in cans. Riot Wine Co. Rouge McLaren Vale Grenache is a delicious minimal intervention red that even won a gold medal at the 2019 International Canned Wine Competition.
CocktailsEnjoying a cocktail anywhere, anytime has never been easier thanks to cocktails in a can. There’s even alcohol-free canned cocktails like Altina La Vie En Rose so that anyone can join the fun. Kahlúa is one of the key ingredients in any good espresso martini, so of course they’ve released a super velvety version of the cocktail in a can. Speaking of espresso martinis, Curatif also makes a fantastic one that’s rich, creamy, and indulgent. And that’s just the beginning of the Curatif premium canned cocktails range. It’s hard to go past their Never Never Negroni can, a wonderfully smooth mix of bittersweet vermouth and botanical gin that’s best served cold as ice.
Premixed FavouritesLast, but certainly not least, are all of the classic premixed drinks that you most likely already know and love. If you’ve got a favourite premixed combo, chances are it comes in the convenience of a can. You can enjoy classic spirit and mixers like Canadian Club Premium Whisky & Dry or Gordon’s Premium Pink Gin & Soda. Or you could branch out and try something new like Rekorderlig Botanicals Grapefruit-Rosemary  — a great low-sugar option that’s also vegan and gluten free.
