Thank goodness, Sag is season is upon us.

Everyone let out a sigh of relief – we’ve left the Scorpio months behind us and we’re into happy-go-lucky Sagittarius season. Phew! Sag is kind of like the anti-Scorpio: wonderfully fun, always optimistic and super keen for just about everything. If you ever want someone to accompany you on some boring errands, call up your Sag mate. Not only will they be there for you (when the rain starts to pour), but you’ll probably end up rock climbing, parasailing or something equally as adventurous afterwards. In short, if you’ve got yourself a Sagittarius friend, you’ve hit the friend jackpot.

We’d say they’re like the Phoebe Buffay of the zodiac family – super sweet, adventurous, always positive and absolutely no filter (eek – their worst quality). So, because they make such good friends, you have to make sure you’re a good friend to them, too. We’ve compiled a list of drinks to give your Sagittarian restless-golden-retriever-of-a-friend something new to try.

1. Spice up your life!

A Margarita (or any tequila drink) is a safe bet for a Sagittarius. But to make it just that bit more risque, pump it up with some chilli – the hotter the better. If there is one thing a Sag absolutely froths it's a bit of adventure. And that can mean anything from swallowing live scorpions to unexpected road trips. The less known about the taste, place, or even the time, the better. That's why a Spicy Marg is perf. Every sip of that Marg is another little adventure for a Sagittarius. Use a solid tequila, like the Cazcabel Blanco, and make and enjoy these with your Sag friend – maybe just tone down the chilli on your one.

2. Independent kings and queens

Okay, okay. A Sag makes a great friend, and they’re always down for a little side quest now and then, but when they tell you ‘no’, it’s because they value their independence, too. They’re known for it. So when it comes to that time of the week when a Sag just needs their alone time, give it to them alongside a bottle of Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin. Why a bottle of Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin, we hear you ask? Because unlike other gins that might need tonic to help it along, Bloody Shiraz Gin is delicious on its own, just like a Saggitarius. Steeped with Yarra Valley shiraz grapes for an undeniably unique flavour, it’s an independent drink for the independent queen.

3. Glass half full of…

The Sag friend is best known for their insane ability to be unrealistically optimistic (can you tell this writer is an Aries?). Truly, they are some of the happiest, most fulfilled, glass-half-full people you will ever encounter. Being friends with a Sag is like being in an episode of The Brady Bunch. Nothing is ever too heavy and if there is a problem, they address it with a smile and a song. This kind of means you can give them anything and they’ll be grateful. But if you really want to cater to their style, go with something new and exciting. The brand new canned cocktails from Starward Whisky are a safe bet, and one of the most rip-roaring releases of 2022. There’s a slew of flavours, but our pick is the Whiskey, Ginger Beer and Zesty Orange. It’s bright and refreshing – just like a Sag’s outlook on life.

4. #nofilter

Sags are happy, yes. And loving. But they also suffer from zero-filter-itis. They will say anything that comes to mind – if they’re thinking it, it’s already halfway out their mouth. And while this can land them in some sticky situations, it’s really something to be grateful for. If you need an honest opinion, you know you’ll get the full-blown, no-holds-barred truth from a Sag. So, what do you give a Sag with no filter? Minimal intervention lo-fi wine, like Native & Ancient’s Pet Nat Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It’s textural, bubbly and delicious unfiltered. We reckon they’ll appreciate the comparison.

5. Saving the earth one beer at a time

We love a Sagittarius for their philosophical heart. They’re big-picture thinkers. Want to talk about the weather or what you had for lunch? No way – a Sag would rather talk your ear off about climate change, community activism and the state of the world. They keep the rest of us zodiac signs in check, and we love them for it. So, what are we getting for our empathetic philosophers? A beer that gives back, duh. The crew at Stone and Wood not only support and raise money for their local communities, but they’re also B Corp Certified. We’re mad for their Cloud Catcher Australian Pale Ale as it’s deeper and punchier than your regular pale ale. It’s a win-win for your Sagittarius friend.
