Zara McDonald and Michelle Andrews with their Shameless Sour

We’ve collaborated with our favourite podcasters to create this delicious, super-easy Shameless Sour.

About the cocktail

It’s cocktail collab time again, folks. This time we’ve got the queens of pop culture (and all things a little bit trashy), our fave podcasters Zara McDonald and Michelle Andrews from Shameless

Before we start bartending, mixing and shake, shake, shakin’, let’s learn a little bit about our Shameless besties Zara and Michelle. If you’re not familiar with the pod, it’s a one-stop shop for your trashy TV rundowns, influencer antics and Hollywood goss. How did they get into this particularly fun line of work, you ask? It’s a tale as old as time. Sort of.

“We were in our first digi-media job and were caught nattering away about The Bachelor at our desks. The company’s Head of Podcasts at the time, Monique Bowley, overheard our back-and-forth and decided we should be put in a pod studio together!” If that isn’t the best endorsement for a cheeky work chat, we don’t know what is.

Aside from work, the two podcast icons enjoy grabbing dinner and drinks with mates, a footy game here and there, and trips to the South Melbourne market. Sounds pretty good to us.

Now back to our yummy cocktail collab. The Shameless Sour is a fun mix of vodka, vanilla, lychee, lemon and rosewater topped with a lovely fluff of egg white. It’s the “definitely-wish-we-were-in-Europe-but-we’re-not-so-here’s-a-cocktail-instead” cocktail (their words not ours, but preach).

So, if this sounds like a little bit of you, throw on the Shameless podcast, read our top tips below and get shaking.

Watch: How to make a Shameless Sour

Ingredients

  • 2 drops of rosewater
  • 25mL lemon juice
  • 15mL lychee liqueur
  • 10mL vanilla syrup
  • 45mL vodka
  • 1 egg white
  • Garnish: mint leaves and thin apple slices

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker
  2. Dry shake, without ice, to whip the egg white
  3. Now chuck in your ice and shake hard again
  4. Strain into a tumbler filled with fresh ice, and garnish with mint leaves and some pretty, thin apple slices

Zara and Michelle’s top tips

So, you’ve decided to have a crack at Zara and Michelle’s Shameless Sour! Well done.  Here’s what you need to know before you get started.

First up, a wee tip from us. We recommend using fresh lemon juice. The bottled stuff may be the easy option, but trust us when we say this drink needs that zing from a squeeze of fresh lemon.

And a tip from our Shameless gal pals: “Don’t do a Zara and let all your eggshells fall into the egg white, or you will be starting again!”

All that’s left is to plug into Shameless and sip away at your Shameless Sour cocktail.
