It’s spicy, it’s zingy and it’s perfect for World Cocktail Day.

About the cocktail

What better way to celebrate World Cocktail Day than with a cocktail? Duh. We’ve joined forces with the ever-stylish Jacquie Alexander to create a cocktail worthy of such a momentous occasion. The result? A Spicy Pineapple Margarita that literal dreams are made of. But first, a little about our fashionista co-host and collaborator.

Jacquie is a digital creator, famous for her effortlessly chic street style and rebellious taste. She’s on trend, super authentic, basically the coolest person you’ll ever meet and loves nothing more than a “cocktail on a rooftop in summer with friends”. She is also co-founder of not one, but two companies – In My Moods fashion wear and the Daily Iced coffee cup brand.

For Jacquie, it was important that our World Cocktail Day creation not only tasted delish, but also looked beautiful. And she’s happy to say that it’s a “10 out of 10 for looks and taste”. Mixing blanco tequila, pineapple juice and a few generous splashes of hot sauce, this drink is a complex and exciting twist on the OG Marg, and it tastes “light, refreshing and zingy”, according to Jacquie. It is a great sunny-day cocktail, but it also makes for a brilliant winter, autumn or spring sipper. Basically, it’s perfect for entertaining your closest friends all year round. Plus, it’s super simple and quick to make, so you can spend more time planning your Marg-drinking outfit. Speaking of, what does our fashionista suggest wearing to drink our Spicy Pineapple Margarita? “Something bright and fun! Maybe a colourful dress.” Or take a tip from Jacquie’s Insta page for some Marg-inspired dressing pointers.

Watch: How to make a Spicy Pineapple Margarita

Ingredients

  • 40mL blanco tequila
  • 20mL fresh lime juice
  • 20mL pineapple juice
  • 10mL sugar syrup
  • 1 dash El Yucateco Green Habanero Hot Sauce (to taste)
  • Garnish: lime wedge and Tajin seasoning for the glass rim, and a cucumber slice

Method

  1. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a chilled rocks glass, then dip the edge in Tajin and set aside
  2. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with a generous amount of ice cubes
  3. Shake until the outside of the shaker is frosty
  4. Fine strain into your rimmed rocks glass and chuck in your ice cubes (the more the better)
  5. Garnish with a cucumber slice

Jacquie’s top tips

When preparing your Spicy Pineapple Margarita, it’s important to use fresh lime juice. That way, you get a fresher and more fragrant drink. To do this, Jacquie suggests very gently rolling your limes while putting a little pressure on them before squeezing them to maximise the juice. You can also sub out the store-bought pineapple juice for fresh pineapple to give it a nice frothy top – but that’s completely up to you.

This drink is a real star-of-the-show kinda cocktail, so it doesn’t necessarily need snacks or food to accompany it. But if you’re like us and dig some snackables next to your drink, Jacquie suggests fish tacos. “Absolutely stunning!”
