Gin and jam go hand in hand in Aurelia’s cracking sweet and fruity cocktail.
About the cocktail
Got a jar of jam you’ve neglected for the better part of the year? Well, dust it off, because Aurelia St Clair is mixing up the most delicious and jam-tastic cocktail ever. Light and fruity, gin-forward and thrifty, the Jam Gin Fizz is super simple and fun to make (and trending on TikTok for a reason). Aurelia is no stranger to Dan’s Daily, having created the super popular Sunset Cooler earlier in the year, we thought we’d bring them back for another cheeky cocktail. If you’ve never heard of Aurelia St Clair, they’re our “spontaneous funny friend”, which makes sense as they’re a comedian, writer and content creator – many hats! For Aurelia, a great cocktail needs to be something you can enjoy equally on a special date night or a lazy night in. “I feel so extra using my cocktail skills to impress my partner and friends at home,” Aurelia says. The Jam Gin Fizz ticks all the boxes. “It’s buildable, so it’s super beginner-friendly and fun. I also love the fact that I can use up some pantry staples like jam in my cocktails.” Have we mentioned the Jam Gin Fizz is incredibly easy to make? It’s just four ingredients built in a glass with a healthy serving of ice – use a wine glass and it's very much like a Spritz. It’s also a very malleable cocktail. We’ve used raspberry jam, but if you have strawberry or blueberry jam open in the fridge, feel free to use that instead for a slightly different flavour. Overall, you want the drink to be fairly light, crisp and a touch tart. “It’s a really playful drink that makes me think of springtime, but also makes me want to pair it with scones, jam and cream,” Aurelia brilliantly suggests. Method
Add the gin, lemon juice and jam to your glass Stir to emulsify the jam Add cubed ice to fill the glass, then top your glass with soda Give it another gentle stir to make sure all those flavours are properly mixed Garnish with a lemon wheel and some skewered raspberries (or any berry, depending on your jam preference)
Aurelia’s top tips
When it comes to easy-to-make cocktails, this is probably top of the list – an encouraging thought for all of us who can’t cook or follow recipes. It’s a pretty hard cocktail to mess up, so what can we do to make this cocktail the best it can be? According to Aurelia, it’s as easy as “giving the drink a good stir to make sure the jam is fully incorporated” and throwing on some Steve Lacy – the Apollo XXI album, specifically. Aside from that, we’d say it’s always best to use fresh lemon juice to get that zesty, crunchy zing to the drink, and don’t skimp on the ice.
