The Millionaire's Martini cocktail

Get ready for the high life with this trés chic take on the classic Martini.

About the cocktail

Love the idea of a decadent spin on the classic Martini cocktail? Introducing the Millionaire's Martini, which takes everything you love about a Martini – dry gin and dry vermouth – and adds a splash of Champagne for a touch of France that’s oh-so chic.

The Millionaire’s Martini is the perfect cocktail to make when you’re celebrating and want something that’s classy, classic and just the right amount of indulgent. The Champagne adds a lovely bubbly texture to the cocktail, but isn’t so strong as to overpower the enjoyable elements of the Martini. Gin and Champagne is a tried-and-tested combination, of course, with cocktails including the French 75, which mixes gin, Champagne, lemon juice and sugar, remaining perennially popular in the bar scene.

More than anything, the Millionaire’s Martini is a carefree cocktail reminiscent of the Roaring 20s, so why not throw a Gatsby-esque soirée and serve your guests Millionaire’s Martinis as they enter? Failing that, it’s just as enjoyable during a quiet celebration on the couch with your closest friends.

Dan’s top tips

We recommend using London dry gin for the Millionaire’s Martini along with a brut nature, or extra-brut Champagne, to ensure that the cocktail remains dry. That said, those with a sweeter tooth may prefer to experiment with sweeter styles of Champagne, like sec or extra-sec. If you really want to push the millionaire theme, serve your Millionaire’s Martinis with a plate of freshly shucked oysters and live the high life, preferably on a yacht. No yacht? That's fine too – the cocktail and oysters will bring enough glamour to the table.
