The brigh orange Campari IPA Spritz cocktail in a tall glass

Just two ingredients make magic in this unexpected Spritz.

About the cocktail

  • Sun’s out, your mates are coming over, but you’ve hit the classic mental block that can strike mid bottle-o trip. Should we have beers? Bubbles? Cocktails? Answer: why not all three? You can do exactly that with this fresh, bittersweet beer-and-liqueur mix.
  • When you think of Campari, you might think of the Negroni, Americano or Boulevardier, but this frothy fella is here to shake things up. A surpising mix of Italian elegance and beer, the Campari IPA Spritz is a kooky combo we reckon you’ll love. By adding a delicious beer into the mix, this bold Spritz becomes a crisp and bubbly arvo offering, perfect for sipping and socialising.

With a zippy fresh orange placed on top, the Campari IPA Spritz is fun, fizzy and frothy – exactly what you want from an aperitivo. The bittersweet allure of Campari with the hoppy punch of a citrus-forward IPA brings two beloved drinks together as one. Surprising? Sure. Delicious? Abso-freakin-lutely.

Dan’s top tips

  • The beauty of this drink is you can go as hi-fi or lo-fi as you want. Out at a picnic? Just take a sip from your beer can and add a splash of Campari (Nascar Spritz style). Flavours a wee bit too intense? You can always dilute it a little with a splash of sparkling water for good measure. If you want more citrus, choose a citrusy-laden IPA and switch the orange or lime wheel for a wedge and squeeze the juice into the mix before popping the slice into the drink.
  • It’s worth highlighting that the IPA you use will have a lot to do with the drink’s final flavours. If you prefer a fruitier style of cocktail, go for an IPA with a tropical hit – a hazy style is perfect here. Prefer a distinct hoppy tang? Go for a hop-heavy style. There are plenty of choices out there to make it work to your own preferred tastes.
