Here's an unusual wine. And at the price, often unusual is not such a bad thing. Exclusive to Dan Murphy's. Sandalwood, walnuts, licorice and black cherry - it's oxidative and carries a subtle balsamic note, yet it does not spoil the wine. It's plump and full with plenty of ripe but grippy tannin, a little bitterness, but has a fair bit of oomph and flavour to go with it. It's so uncompromisingly Italianate, I swear I can sniff a couple of concrete lions roaring somewhere in the background. A good wine of character and charismatic appeal. Like it.
