Despite our festive season falling in summer, it's a great time to enjoy Australia's outstanding fortified wines. They're ideal with all sorts of Christmas treats, and ou can give them a light chill without destroying their luscious personalities. This example, made from red frontignac grapes in the Riverina region in south-western NSW, is an extraordinary bargain. The nose offers spice, toffee, raisined muscatel and light vanillan notes, ahead of a mellow, lusciously sweet palate with deep Turkish delight-like flavours that last long and mellow. Yum.
