Halliday Wine Companion
The Reuben is an Adelaide Hills blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 45%, Merlot 26%, Cabernet Franc 25%, Malbec 4%.
There’s character here. And flavour. And, along with those things, value. Blackcurrant and chocolate notes swing persuasively through the palate, aided by mint/eucalypt and cedar-like notes. It’s both sturdy and delicious; a few extra years rest prior to release has done the wine much good. The structure of this wine is excellent, as indeed is the flavour. It’s a bit of a steal, really. 37% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot, 23% cabernet franc, 6% malbec and 2% shiraz, matured in French oak for 18 months. As Paracombe is apt to do, this is a fresh, youthful and delicious Bordeaux blend, the price as seductive as the wine.
