Felton Road Bannockburn Pinot Noir

  • Varietal:  Pinot Noir
  • Current Vintage:  2010*
  • Size:  750mL

Felton Road really is a fine winemaker. This is its regular bottling and what a wine, with lush, dark cherry and mysterious foresty aromas. It's very ripe and rich and the palate has intensity and drive, with fresh acidity keeping it all singing.

Felton Road is my favourite producer in all of New Zealand right now and this wine is a large part of the reason. 2010 is as vintage you must not miss, more exuberant than ever in its violets, black cherries, exotic spice and pot pourri. It's rich with mulberry fruit and laced with perfume from start to finish, weaving through very fine, textural, mineral tannins.

A blend of three vineyards, showing attractive ripe cherry and boysenberry fruits, bright spicy complexity and gently toasty oak. The palate is defined along clean tannin lines, layering up beautifully to the red fruit-flavoured finish. An exercise in poise, balance and detail.

Good full red. Pure but restrained aromas of raspberry, minerals, white pepper, rose petal and herbs; about as Chambolle-like as any New Zealand pinot I've tasted this year. Juicy, tangy and pristine, with lovely sappy lift to the red fruit and spice flavors. Offers a compelling combination of sweet fruit and inner-palate energy. Finishes sappy and impressively long, with spicy, peppery tannins.

Light on its feet, this is harmonious and beautifully focused to show its bright açaí berry and blackberry flavors in a spotlight. The finish sails on, letting the fruit linger.

Medium-deep ruby purple colour. A little mute, pure cherry fruit, raspberry, black pepper and a touch of cinnamon. Plate shows very good balance, medium to high acid, medium level of very silky tannins, medium to full body. Long finish.
