Te Koko is an intriguing and alternative style of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Aromas of lemon thyme, mandarin blossom and stonefruit combine harmoniously with ginger spice and nutty and savoury tones, underlined by exotic tropical notes. The many-layered palate is creamy and textured, balanced by a clean, mineral acidity. This wine has excellent persistence of flavour and intensity.

We've discussed here before that Te Koko has toned down its personality in recent years. It's still a very different beast from the standard' Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc. Nice sense of age to this wine. Gives its harder, woodier, smokier edges a mellow feel. It tastes of gravel and grass, thistles and ash. It's minorly sweaty, in a complexing way. Its effects work much better if you give them a chance to breathe (i.e. pop it in the decanter). I slowly came around to this wine. It's challenging, but enchanting.
