Blackberry, malty oak, mint/licorice it's a big rich brooding mouthful of dark fruit backed with toasty oak, plenty of rugged tannin, a little alcohol warmth and a good finish. Some tobacco and dried herb flavours in there too. It's large scale, chewy, raw and unsubtle brutish even, but it's not a bad wine at all. With a big steak now or give it more time in bottle.

Recent vintages of Brand's Coonawarra reds have been riper and fuller than those of the past. Blockers '08 has a glass-staining, deep colour with a nose of crushed berries, currants, Siena cake and cedar. In the mouth it has excellent balance and good concentration without showing undue alcohol, finishing long with ripe tannins.
