Light and perfumed with youthful jubey red berries, a kiss of vanilla oak and a dusting of pepper. Just medium bodied with good shape and fine powdery tannin, it's not the deepest or most concentrated of wines, though that also forms a large part of its charm. Given some time in bottle it will surely flesh out and improve, possibly reaching into the 90 point range. For now though, an attractive wine offering freshness and drinkability.

A perennial favourite of Australians, this Coonawarra shiraz label has nearly 60 years of history behind it. The 2010 edition is great value, offering an attractive nose of dark plums and berries, friendly spices such as nutmeg, some meatiness and a deft touch of toast oak. It's medium in body and succulent in flavour, with fine texture, attractive length and drying tannins in good balance. A satisfying, well-made wine that drinks well now but will build complexity in bottle in the medium term.

A perennial favourite of Australian wine lovers with a lineage to the early 1950s, Wynns shiraz is very good in the 2009 vintage. Raspberry, blackberry, peppery spice and subtle oak fill nose and mouth, and the medium bodied palate is long and finely balanced.
