Majella Cabernet Sauvignon is a classy Cabernet that is a cut above the rest when compared against anything at a similar price. Classic cassis, cedar and herbs are underlined by beautifully handled oak.

Its pretty much pitch-perfect for a Coonawarra red. Medium-weight but strong and robust ... A top vintage of Majella Cabernet - for the long haul.

...fragrant bouquet tells you of the superelegant wine that is to follow, with vibrant blackcurrant and redcurrant fruit set within fine, silky tannins.

Majella cabernet sauvignon maintains a remarkable consistency of style and quality. But this 2009 is among the line's upper ranks. It's essency. Essence of Coonawarra and essence of Australian cabernet. Rich with sweet blackcurrant, lifted by eucalyptus and red earth, dusty and tannic through the finish and of course, finished with polished, smoky oak. Packs a lot of flavour but all the screws are tight. Given the cellaring history of Majella cabernet, I'd expect this to age slowly, and to still be going strong in a decade or more.

For a decade, Majella has remained my benchmark for $30 Australian cabernet and countless wines have missed the cut in the presence of this comparison. 2009 is a textbook, definitive Coonawarra cabernet of concentration, structural poise and fine-tuned definition.
